I strongly believe that simple things like turning LEDs on using a Raspberry Pi will always be fun, regardless of any new technologies that come along. To that end, I have a personal home automation setup with the primary purpose of turning lights on/off and changing their colors in increasingly convoluted ways. Of course home automation systems do have practical value, but their best selling point is the fact that they are so fun to build. Being fun to build isn't limited to turning lights on and off for me though. It is fun to create new applications and see them working, regardless of their size and complexity.
When I am not working on home automation systems, I develop applications primarily using Node, C#, AngularJS, and React. Outside the software development world, I enjoy playing board games from my ever growing collection.
